When renewable energy sparks community investment plans
Lekela signed its first Wind Farm project, West Bakr, with the Egyptian Government in 2017 to produce 250MW renewable energy. We have been their PR arm throughout this journey - from the MOU, through funding, inauguration, construction; and finally 'Commercial Operation Date'.
PR Opportunity
Lekela's West Bakr project is situated in the city of Ras Ghareb on Egypt's Red Sea. Like everywhere else in the world, the community of Ras Ghareb was affected by the pandemic, impacting their resources and income. Lekela already had a community investment plan; and this was the perfect timing to roll- out some value-based community initiatives. These were the perfect stories to tell.
The Result
We launched several community initiatives in Ras Ghareb including: Apprenticeship Program for female engineers at the wind farm; local women training in sewing and embroidery; as well as the Women's Literacy Program in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Education; vocational training program; a rehabilitation center for children with autism; and a school for the children of Ras Ghareb.
